Detailed Description:

Breast cancer begins as a group of cells in the breast that grow abnormally and form a tumor. Although it's most commonly diagnosed in women, men can also develop breast cancer due to the presence of breast tissue in all genders.

After skin cancer, it is the second most common cancer diagnosed in women. Awareness, early detection, and advances in medical treatments have played a major role in increasing survival rates and reducing mortality.

Modern screening methods, such as mammography, help detect breast cancer early, when it's most treatable. Treatments vary based on the type and stage of cancer and may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, hormonal therapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy.

Types of Breast Cancer:

  • Ductal Carcinoma in Situ (DCIS)
  • Invasive Lobular Carcinoma
  • Inflammatory Breast Cancer
  • Paget's Disease of the Breast
  • Lobular Carcinoma in Situ (LCIS)
  • Angiosarcoma
  • Male Breast Cancer
  • Recurrent Breast Cancer

Symptoms of Breast Cancer:

  • A lump or thickened tissue in the breast
  • Nipple retraction or flattening
  • Changes in breast shape or size
  • Skin changes (dimpling, orange peel texture)
  • Discoloration (red, purple, or darker patches)
  • Flaking, peeling, or crusting of the nipple or skin

When to See a Doctor:

If you notice any changes in your breast such as a new lump, skin changes, or nipple abnormalities, consult a healthcare provider immediately even if your last mammogram was normal.
